History & Growth
JMMCRI traces its origins to 17th December 1951, when it began as a small dispensary established as a memorial of the Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee of Rt. Rev. Dr. George Alapatt, the then Bishop of Thrissur. The first clinical services started in 1952 with just four rooms and 20 beds, staffed by two retired doctors and two nurses from the Holy Cross Congregation.
Over the ensuing decades, the institution expanded steadily. It became known for quality care in areas like cleft lip and palate surgery, snake-bite treatment, and burns management, and later introduced numerous super-specialty services such as cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and gastroenterology.
The hospital was recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for clinical training in 1971, and in 2003 it was formally designated as a teaching hospital, with the Jubilee Mission Medical College commencing academic programs.
Mission & Values
Driven by its motto Service with Love, Jubilee Mission emphasizes holistic healthcare, inclusivity, and accessibility—serving patients irrespective of caste, creed, or economic status. Its ethos is rooted in Christian values, with emphasis on dignity, integrity, and excellence in both patient care and medical education.
Leadership & Management
JMMCRI’s governance reflects its mission and mission-driven approach:
The governance structure also includes representation from senior faculty and specialists, ensuring a blend of academic insight and mission-oriented leadership.
Notable Contributors
A significant figure in the institution’s development was Dr. H.S. Adenwalla, a missionary surgeon who played a major role in expanding the hospital’s clinical services and establishing its reputation in cleft lip and palate surgery. His work impacted thousands of lives and helped propel the institution’s growth from a dispensary into a large medical centre.
