The Department of Pharmacology at Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute is committed to delivering high-quality undergraduate education focused on the rational, safe, and effective use of medicines in patient care. The program provides a strong foundation in core pharmacological sciences, principles of drug action, clinical pharmacology, and therapeutics, with close integration across medical disciplines to promote holistic pharmacotherapy.

The department maintains a positive learning environment and encourages student participation, critical thinking, and research activities. it plays an important role in enhancing students’ understanding of drugs and their clinical applications.

Students receive structured clinical exposure in wards, outpatient clinics, and emergency settings, enabling them to correlate pharmacological principles with real-world patient management across a broad spectrum of diseases. Teaching emphasizes critical thinking, case-based learning, and problem-solving skills to support evidence-based and ethical prescribing practices.

The department is supported by experienced faculty actively involved in clinical practice, research, and academics. The department fosters a strong research culture, encouraging involvement in drug development, clinical trials, and pharmacovigilance.

  • Objectives

At the end of course the learner shall be able to:

  • Apply basic principles of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
  • Describe pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of essential and commonly used drugs.

  • Select and prescribe drug(s) rationally for common ailments and mass therapy under National Health Programmes.
  • Integrate the concept of rational drug therapy in clinical pharmacology.
  • Calculation of drug dosage.
  • Understand principles in management of poisoning, specific antidotes for drug toxicity.
  • Understand the Legal aspects of prescribing drugs.
  • Forsee, recognize, prevent and manage Adverse Drug Events and Drug Interactions
  • Report Adverse Drug Reactions.
  • Indicate causations in prescription of drugs in special medical situations such as pregnancy, lactation, infancy and old age.
  • Understand the principles of Pharmacoeconomics.
  • Understand the principles of Pharmacogenetics & Pharmacogenomics.
  • Understand the Principles of Evidence Based Medicine.
  • Understand the role of experimental pharmacology in drug development
