The Department of Psychiatry at Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute, established in 2003, provides comprehensive evidence-based psychiatric care addressing the mental health needs of the modern era. The department is equipped to manage a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including stress-related disorders, suicidal behaviour, emotional crisis, personality disorders and severe psychiatric disorders.

The department emphasises individualised care, maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, empathy and professional integrity. Alongside clinical services, the department is committed to academic excellence, research advancement, and the training of future healthcare professionals in Psychiatry.

From foundation to present 

The Department of Psychiatry grew steadily under the stewardship of Dr. James T Antony, Dr. M.V Warunni and Dr. Saibunneesa Beevi  whose leadership strengthened both clinical services and postgraduate training, shaping the department into a reliable centre for mental healthcare.

The department has also been enriched by the guidance and wisdom of several senior clinicians and academicians, notably Dr. John Mathai Panickacheril and Dr. Praveenlal Kuttichira, whose contributions have played a significant role in refining clinical standards, academic culture, and holistic patient care.The department is presently led by Dr. Neethi Valsan ,with a strong emphasis on clinical excellence and research.

The department treats individuals with mental health problems such as,

  • Addiction disorders (Substance use disorders, Internet addiction, Behavioural addictions).
